What PillRoute actually does

PillRoute runs on a single idea: pick one date a month for each patient and pull every maintenance medication onto it. The system handles the short fill math, calculating the bridge quantities needed to bring out of sync prescriptions into line, and it keeps an audit trail defending each decision.

Seven days before that anchor date, PillRoute builds a refill call queue. Instead of a flat list, it organizes patients by what changed since last month, tracks the outcome of each call, and schedules callbacks. The point is to make the pre-delivery phone work predictable rather than frantic.

On delivery day, the route builder converts the filled bins into a driver manifest ordered by drive time. Refrigerated items are grouped, controlled substances are flagged separately, and each stop captures a recipient signature, name, timestamp, and optional photo. Failed drops are logged for follow-up, which gives the pharmacy a chain of custody it can actually point to.

Beyond sync and routing, PillRoute bundles adherence tracking that monitors proportion of days covered (PDC) per patient and per measure, so a pharmacy can spot who is slipping before the numbers do real damage.

The software advertises HIPAA compliance with encrypted hosting and signed business associate agreements, plus integration with major independent dispensing systems. It is designed to sit alongside an existing pharmacy management setup rather than replace it, which is worth knowing before you weigh it against broader platforms.

Pricing: three plans, billed monthly

PillRoute publishes three tiers. One Store runs $69 per month for a single location with unlimited synced patients. Two Stores is $149 per month, adding a second counter with shared resources and three driver seats. Pharmacy Group is $299 per month for three or more stores, with unlimited driver seats and a group dashboard.

Every plan includes unlimited patients, call queues, route building, signature capture, and adherence reporting. Billing is monthly, and the site states there are no setup fees and no contracts, so the commitment is a month at a time.

The numbers PillRoute reports

PillRoute cites median figures drawn from 412 stores. It reports a 94.1% average PDC on synced panels, 6.2 hours of technician time recovered each week, and $3,180 less restocked inventory per month. It also claims 31% fewer delivery miles per day and a median last delivery leaving the counter at 3:42 p.m.

These are the vendor's own numbers, presented as medians rather than guarantees, and not independent audits. PillRoute says a pharmacy reaches its first fully synced delivery day in a median of nine business days.
