It gives home visit IBCLCs a visit template to chart into while the assessment is happening, turns the weights and notes into a plain language feeding plan, and texts that plan to the parent before the consultant leaves the driveway.

The app is doing subtraction and drawing a line, competently and quickly, which is genuinely useful when you are doing it on a phone in someone's nursery.
What it is not doing is assessing anybody. LatchDesk does not examine a baby, does not diagnose, does not decide anything and does not give medical advice. The latch score in the chart is the score the IBCLC assigned. The feeding plan is built from what the consultant entered and stands or falls on that consultant's judgment. LatchDesk never claims to hand out clinical advice in the first place: it is a well organized form that remembers CPT codes.
LatchDesk is also explicit about its own boundaries, which is rarer than it should be. In its own words it is not a hospital electronic health record, not a payment processor, and not a marketing platform for your practice. The billing side is where a lot of solo practices quietly lose hours. LatchDesk generates superbills with NPI, CPT and ICD-10 codes attached, so the parent gets the document their insurer will demand without the consultant assembling it by hand later that week. It schedules follow ups with calendar reminders, and the larger tier adds a referral pipeline.
Exports are available as PDF and CSV, with billing exports that reach QuickBooks and Wave. The site says export is available at any time, not only when you are leaving, with no export fee and no support ticket required. Read that clause carefully anyway, because it is the one that matters on the day you want two years of charts back.
